Primary Duties
The STD Surveillance Coordinator is responsible for assuring legally notifiable sexually transmitted disease cases are reported and stored in the statewide STD surveillance data system.
The duties include:
- Plans, organizes, and manages a statewide STD surveillance program.
- Develops case reporting procedures and monitors reported cases and positive laboratory tests to assure appropriate follow-up and treatment.
- Consults and provides technical assistance to Local Health Jurisdictions, clinical laboratories, private physicians, Indian Health Clinics, and other health care providers regarding STD reporting.
- Develops, coordinates the writing of the STD annual cooperative agreement (grant) with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Prepares reports and distributes to local health jurisdictions, providers, and CDC.
- Assures the STD program website is updated with appropriate information.
- Serves as STD program representative on various internal and external workgroup/councils.
- Supervises staff in the surveillance unit, identifies training needs, and evaluates performance.
- Interprets information and ensures compliance with state laws (RCWs) and regulations (WACs) regarding STDs, especially reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- One or more year(s) of paid professional experience maintaining and updating health database systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience applying Washington State regulations (WAC's) and laws (RCW's) pertaining to sexually transmitted diseases.
- Experience applying national CDC guidelines for surveillance and data management of sexually transmitted diseases.
Conditions of Employment
- Willing and able to use a personal computer approximately 70% of work time.
- Willing and able to occasionally travel within Washington State to meet program needs.
- Willing and able to occasionally work in excess of 40 hours per week to meet program needs and critical deadlines.
