NCSD Viral STD Project (in development)

NCSD is partnering with 3M and other corporate partners to increase knowledge and develop national, state and local public health policies around viral STDS such as HPV, hepatitis and herpes.

The objectives of the project are:

1. Develop and administer a survey/needs assessment around viral STDs to answer the following questions:

  • How many are treated for viral STDs in the public sector?
  1. STD clinics
  2. Family planning clinics
  3. Corrections settings
  • What treatments are being used?
  • What resources are being put into viral STDs?
  • What are the policies and procedures related to diagnosis/treatment?
  • Where is it being done, where is it not done (Gap Analysis)?

2. Organize a two-day conference, geared toward managers, to explore in-depth the technical issues related to viral STDs.

3. Collaborate with corporate and foundation partners to develop educational materials for:

  • Health care providers
  • STD program managers
  • Policymakers

4. Provide ongoing Technical Assistance:

  • Focus groups
  • Viral STD Workgroup
  • Annual meeting seminars
  • Model Policy Development
  • Cost Models

5. Facilitate or develop state and local educational efforts:

  • CEUs for training individual providers
  • Coordinate efforts with STD Prevention Training Center
