It's that time of year to recognize the heroic work of Disease Intervention Specialists around the nation!
Event Date
October 4, 2019

Take a Look at Our 2019 DIS Recognition Day Photo Album here!

Why We Celebrate Disease Intervention Specialists

  • Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) are the backbone of state and local STD/HIV programs.
  • DIS serve the most critical role in the reporting and controlling of the spread of STDs, HIV, TB, and hepatitis.
  • DIS cover many miles in their attempt to ensure all patients who are infected, or have been exposed to an infection, are notified and treated.
  • It is important to celebrate those whose work often goes unrecognized.
  • DIS brave unsafe conditions, work weekends and nights, and respond to crises outside of STD/HIV prevention including pertussis, H1N1 influenza, e-coli, and other outbreaks.
  • DIS are public health heroes dedicated to serving their communities.

Time to Get Creative: Submit a DIS Slogan

If you are a DIS looking to get involved, get those creative juices flowing and submit a catchy DIS slogan. Your slogan will be displayed on various NCSD communication channels as well as giveaways at STD Engage 2019. Submit your slogan here.

Recognition Can Be Easy: How You Can Be Engaged

  • Take a picture with our DIS Photo Message Templates. Consider posting these to social media, sharing with NCSD, or sending around your department. Please send all pictures to Iman Karnabi, NCSD and we will highlight these on social media.
  • Present each DIS with a certificate. Use this template or create your own. Bonus points if you bring in the director of your health department to do the presentation honors.
  • Send out a press release or statement. You can use this easy-to-use template which would only take a few minutes to put together.
  • Order your DIS Recognition Day t-shirts, hoodies, and mugs.
  • Consider promoting a Wellness Day–hire a massage therapist or a yoga instructor for an afternoon of rest and relaxation for your DIS.
  • Bring in baked goods, breakfast, or pizza and host a mealtime celebration in honor of your DIS.
  • Tweet or share about DIS Recognition Day using #DISDay2019.  Or retweet messages from NCSD’s Twitter account, @NCSDdc. See below for sample social media posts.
