Overview

Once near elimination in the United States, syphilis – particularly the highly infectious primary and secondary stages – is rising. A 1999 outbreak in Indiana was followed by a steep drop in cases. Following this drop, the Indiana Department of Health reported steady increase from 2013 to 2016. Since then, rates have decreased only 2%, meaning there is still much more work to be done.

Presenter

Dr. Jason Zucker, MD, Instruction in Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also a part of the faculty of the CDC-funded STD Prevention Training Center at Columbia University in the City of New York. Dr. Zucker’s work has focused on treating adult and pediatric populations with variety of immunocompromising conditions. His research interests involve utilizing novel technologies to improve prevention and treatment for adolescents and young adults living with, or at risk of, HIV, Hepatitis C virus, and STDs.
