Once near elimination in the United States, syphilis – particularly the highly infectious primary and secondary stages – is rising. A 1999 outbreak in Indiana was followed by a steep drop in cases. Following this drop, the Indiana Department of Health reported steady increase from 2013 to 2016. Since then, rates have decreased only 2%, meaning there is still much more work to be done.
Please join this informative webinar to shed light on Indiana’s syphilis problem and what public health nurses, practitioners, and STD clinic staff can do to ensure that proper prevention, diagnosis, and treatment is provided.
Following this webinar, participants will be able to:
– Describe the current state of syphilis in Indiana.
– Recognize signs, symptoms, and basic treatment options for syphilis infection.
– Identify protocols for syphilis screening and testing.
– Determine when patients are candidates for rapid syphilis testing.
