The contractual Epidemiology Consultant (EC) works within the HIV Case Surveillance Program to conduct adult and pediatric surveillance and epidemiological responsibilities; initiates HIV/AIDS case investigations, contacts medical providers, hospital systems, and laboratories across intrastate and interstate jurisdictions to gather HIV/AIDS case defining information as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); monitors and updates relevant confidential databases; reviews and completes reporting forms. The EC obtains surveillance data through various active and passive activities which include phone calls, site visits, medical chart abstractions, and matching patient line lists.
