The number of babies born in the U.S. with syphilis more than doubled in just four years, reaching a 20-year high last year. A simple test for syphilis can lead to treatment that protects mothers and their babies. Untreated syphilis, when passed to a baby, can lead to miscarriage, newborn death, and serious, life-long disabilities.
Overall, 2.3 million cases of STDs were diagnosed nationwide in 2017 – the highest number of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia cases combined in American history.
Most people aren’t aware of their STD risks. Especially for women, undiagnosed and untreated STDs can have devastating consequences that can lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancies, cervical cancer, and babies born with syphilis.
Donate today to help protect mothers and their babies! Give the gift of health by donating to The STD Clinic Fund. NCSD will use 100 percent of your contribution to purchase free syphilis tests for pregnant women in need being served at STD clinics throughout the country.
